Origin

Alfonso de Albuquerque, a Portuguese explorer, and military expert, traveled to India in the 15th century, introduced grafting on trees to produce some new varieties of mangos. From Goa, they traveled to Ratnagiri and other southern regions. The production of Ratnagiri Alphonso mangoes was due to the grafting of different species of mangos.

Appearance

The color of Ratnagiri Alphonso mango is golden yellow color hued with saffron. The ripe mangoes are bright golden yellow with red spots that spreads to the top of the mangoes. The flesh of the mango is of saffron color. The voluptuous shape with thin and wrinkle-free skin makes them unique. The pulp doesn’t stick to the skin when peeled.
