About Kesar Mango

Origin

Kesar mangoes were grown in 1931 by Junagadh Wazir Sale Bhai when about seventy five grafts were planted on the foothills of Girnar at the farm of Junagadh Laal Dori. The grafting led to the production of the Kesar mangoes. The term Kesar was given by the nawab of Junagadh Muhammad Mahabat Khan III in 1934 due to these mangoes’ color.

Appearance

The Kesar mango has a round shape with a distinct curve at the bottom. These mangoes are relatively small in comparison with other mangoes. The color of the skin is dull, mottled yellow with a green tinge when unripe. The flesh is of deep yellow to orange color and medium-sized stone. The skin is thin and has little wrinkles with less fiber.

Taste

Kesar mangoes, called the queen of mangoes, have a smooth and mild flavor with intense sweetness. They have a sweet fragrance when they are at peak conditions. They have a slight acid taste when they are less ripe or unmatured. The fruit is ready for eating when the fruit has a tender flesh with an overall softness coming from the thin skin.
