Origin

Langra mango is said to originate from Varanasi, current Banaras. In the hindi language, Langra means lame. It got its name from a 300 years old tale which depicts a lame or “langra” farmer who ate these mangoes and sowed its seeds in his farm. Hence, langra mangoes of Banaras have a distinct and best taste. Now, it’s grown all around India.

Appearance

All Langra mangoes have a skin of green or greenish-yellow colour unlike other varieties of mangoes which turn yellow when ripe. Also, the peel is thick and smooth. Its size ranges from medium to large. The flesh of these mangoes does not have any fibres and is yellowish-brown in colour. The stones or the seeds of Langras are small and oval.

Taste

Dasheri mangoes are most loved by people due to their brilliant taste. You can easily cut them into slices and enjoy their deliciousness. Its taste is outstandingly sweet. Its sweet taste can be easily determined by its strong and sweet aroma. Make sure that the Dasheri you choose is fully ripe because only then it will have the right taste.
